    Jno. Gregory and Francis Murray taken before me

    Geo. Reid Esquire one of his Majesty's Justices of

    the Peace for the said County this 7th day of

    September 1789

     

    Who being duly sworn upon their Oaths says

    and first this Informant John Gregory for

    himself of Sayeth that the Person now present

    and calls himself John Levings was emplayed by

    him as a Painter to Assist. in Painting Mr.

    Vansittards house in upper Pally Mr. that last

    Wednesday was a Week he left he Service saying

    next Morning-that in Consequence of his not re=

    turning and a Suspicion falling when him of

    having robbed the other Informant Ann William

    became along with her to the at public Office

    Poland [..] and got a Parent to Search his

    Apartments

     

    And this Informant Ann Williams for herself

    sayeth that on Et. Saturday was a Week she missed a

    Quantity of wearing Apparel from some Drawers

    in which they were locked and which she found

    as she left them, and having some Suspicion of

    the Person now present who calls himself

    Jno. Levings she Applyed to the afd. Majestrate for

    a Warrant to Search his Apartment, but that nothing

    was found but the Cup now Produced which is the

    Property of her Mistress Mr. Vansittant which Cup

    was deposited a Medicine that not locked together

    with the pot of Examination now produced which she

    knows from the Cover thereon to be the Property of her

    said Mistress

    And this Informant Robert Cross for himself

    sayeth that on last Wednesday he came to Town

    that upon examining her Drawer he found it

    locked, put upon opening of it, found that Four

    Pair of Stockings Jone Waistcoat now produced

    were taken and carried awayand one his Property

    had been taken and carried away out of the said

    Drawer that he likewise had left a Quantity

    of Playing Caves on the said Drawer, Three

    Packs where of had not been opened, that Two Bed fort the said

    Cards which were not opened were [..] taken and carried away that the

    said Cards were wrapt in Covers of Harry the VIII

    from whence he verily believes the Two Packs of

    Cards now produced were are taken out of the said Drawer

     

    And this Informant Francis Murray for

    himself sayeth, that, he was employed a Sarach

    to execute a Search Warrant to search the Lodgings

    new present of the Person now Present who calls

    himself John Levings for some Womens wearing

    Apparel which was suspected to have been stolen

    by him from the other informant Ann Williams

    that the said Ann Williams was present at the

    Time of the said Search hat none of her Property

    was found put the Cup and Pot of Pomation

    now produced were observed by her and claimed

    to be the Property of Mr. Vagnsittact with whom

    she lived that at the Line this Informant was

    searching the Apartment of the said John Levings

    he found observed the Stockings and Waistcoat which he

    verily believes to be the same now produced and

    sworn to be the Property of the other Informant

    Robert Cross , on a Box which he verily believes

    is belong to the said John Levings that upon

    being informed of the other Informant Robert Cross

    had been robbed, he immediately recollected the Cir

    -cumstance of having seen such Stockings and

    Waistcoat in the aforesaid Box as were described

    to him

    to him where upon he went to the Apartment

    of the said John Levings where he found that the

    Box which he had before searched and in which

    he had seen the Stockings and Waistcoat as aforesaid

    had been broke open and the said Stockings

    Waistcoat taken out away, but other Things

    were remaining in the said Box, as this In-

    -formant had left them When Enquiry

    of the Landlord who had been there was told

    no other Person had been there but the Man who

    lodged with him he then asked where the said

    Man worked and finding he was hard up, went

    to him and asked who broke the Box open

    was told by the said Man that it was himself

    and that he did it by the Directions of the Prisoner

    John Levings , who wrote to him for that Purpose

    and Immediately delivered to this Informant

    the Bundle now produced containing the Stockings

    And Waistcoat Sworn to by the other Informant

    Robert Cross together with the Two Packs of Cards

    Supposed to be taken & carried away at the same

    Time, which said Stockings, Waistcoat and Cards

    this Informant verily believes to be [..] identically

    the same which he saw at the Time he made

    the first March as aforesaid
